INTERCEPTIVE ORTHODONTICS
Part of your child’s exam visit is dedicated to evaluating the growth and development of their smile. Children who show early signs of poor growth, crowding, space loss, altered tooth eruption, misaligned bite (also known as malocclusion), bad habits (e.g. thumbsucking), etc. may require the use of an appliance to intercept the problem. These appliances include Space Maintainers, Expanders, Crossbite Correctors, etc.
Despite being called interceptive ORTHODONTICS, these appliances are not braces. However, most children consider them braces, and are often excited to show their friends.
